Yoga & Wellbeing in the Woods Retreat

2015 WELLBEING IN THE WOODS RETREAT SCHEDULE:

THE ACCOMMODATION

You’ll stay in an area of Outstanding beauty, sleeping in beautifully furnished shepherd’s huts, kept warm and dry all year round with wood-burninng stoves. Don’t worry! The Shepherd’s huts will be very warm. We’ll enjoy 6 acres of secluded woodland all to ourselves, with just sheep for neighbours. We’ll have a truly zero carbon experience with compost loos, solar showers, limited phone reception & no electricity – perfect for disconnecting from digital distractions and star gazing around the campfire instead. The nearest train station from London is Dorking, which is 6 miles and 10/15 minute taxi ride away. We’ll suggest which train to catch to Dorking when you make the booking.

THE YOGA
Mixing up detoxifying dynamic sequences with longer held poses, the yoga classes will be modified to suit all levels of yogis and will be taught by 2 teachers, so you’ll enjoy a mix of styles and experience. Over the weekend we’ll explore all manner of poses, pranayama and meditation techniques, culminating in a soothing ‘yin’ yoga session on the Sunday. As a rule, morning classes will be more dynamic and evening classes more restorative. You’ll also be treated to a bedtime ‘yoga nidra’ (yoga sleep) guided meditation on Saturday night to help you snooze off to a long sleep. Yoga will take place in the communal ‘bales’ building, which has wooden floors and a wood burning stove.

THE FOOD
All meals will be vegetarian and made from healthy ‘whole foods’ with as many super foods and seasonal produce as possible. We’ll also include raw food dishes into every meal and at the raw chocolate making workshop, you’ll learn to make some raw food treats and desserts yourselves. Although not strictly a ‘detox’ weekend, most dishes will be gluten and dairy free and you won’t find any refined sugar in any dishes. Don’t worry, you will not go hungry!

THE SCHEDULE

THE EXTRA WELLBEING EXPERIENCE
Rather than just run a yoga retreat, we endeavour to offer a whole weekend of wellbeing. Which is why we include mindfulness meditation sessions, healthy food workshops, countryside walks and optional nutritional consultations. For our Surrey yoga retreats we’ll also walk to the top of Leith Hill for 360 degree views of Surrey (and sometimes even London), indulge in some outdoor cooking and toast some marshmallows (and hell, even bust out a few campfire songs) around the fire pit!

THE TREATMENTS
Treat yourself to a pampering facial or massage (or both!) with one of wonderful holistic therapists in one of the cosy shepherd’s huts on site. Treatments incur an extra cost of £25 for 30 mins or £40 for 60 mins and will be scheduled in free time over the weekend.

PRICES
Our March retreat is marginally cheaper than our June & August retreat for two reasons. Firstly, March will mark our first time running a retreat at Green Escapes, so we’re offering a special ‘Pilot’ price in exchange for honest guest feedback on how we can make improvements to run a slick operation at our June & August retreats. Rest assured, we have years of retreat experience, so the March retreat will still deliver the usual high Stretching the City standards. Secondly, the venue cost is higher over the summer months.
