Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of self awareness. It incorporates kriyas (postures performed in a particular sequence) that bring balance to your body and mind.
The class structure consists of some warm up exercises, a kriya, deep relaxation and meditation.
The kriya’s vary every week so no two classes are the same. This enables us to work different areas of the body, both internally e.g nervous system/immune system and externally e.g muscle tone and achieve the most from the yoga class.
As with all yoga classes you only do what you are comfortable with doing, listen to your body. Flexibility will build up in its own time so don’t push yourself too far.
The meditations allow us to learn how to quieten the mind and de-stress.
We learn how to breath deeply, navel breathing, which promotes calmness and also expands our lung capacity.
There is a little bit of everything in Kundalini Yoga and easier variations of the postures are always given so trying a little yoga is far more beneficial than no yoga at all!
